Well a kind hearted gentleman was admitted to a Nursing Home and He was allowed to bring his Best Friend Rusty to stay with him. The problem? Well Rusty had to stay in a small crate day & night because… Well… he was NOT a fan of the staff or the gentleman’s room-mate. Seems he would growl and try to bite them.. Hmph! – We received a phone call from the administrator of the nursing home for help. The only family member was unable to care properly for him and again kept in a small crate 24/7… NOT GOOD! So… a phone call to our wonderful Board Member Michelle ( with a medical background) AND the mama of ISHAS dogs Ellie Rose AND Winston… Went to pick up the little Chihuahua from the Nursing home. He arrived today after Michelle spent an hour with the doggies daddy assuring him that ISHAS would not put down his best friend and he would have a home here for life if no one wanted to adopt him..
Rusty got here – hopped out of his safety carrier kennel – explored the yard – picked up in our arms- and had a bath. We contained him in a large condo kennel…. not for longggg… All the lobby doggies wanted to meet Rusty and Rusty wagged his tail to get out and meet them too.. So, little Mr. biter HA! Rusty boy is running around the Lobby exploring every inch. He does not know what a toy is yet but Noelle is trying to teach him to play.. He gets into 19 Yr. old Vera’s kennel and looks out at all WITH THE KENNEL DOOR OPEN – then over to a little doggie house ( Cola’s office we call it) and peeks out at all going on.. He sat by the lunch table while staff had lunch and no issues at all… Rusty has a few issues .. His abdomen is pouchy and he walks with a very unsteady rear end.. But he can get where he wants to with that wobbly butt. HE IS NOT A BITER – he just did not like being in a small crate for day after day ! It was not fair to him to have to live like that and now HE WON’T .. We just HAD to help RUSTY and his Daddy .. The family member was going to take RUSTY to a Dog Pound and THAT would not be a good outcome – THIS little guy needs a CHANCE.
HE GOT IT ! Help us help RUSTY.. He’s going to need a Vet appointment – but is up to date on Vaccinations and is neutered. RUSTY is 10 Yrs. old ! His daddy was a truck driver and found him as a puppy laying on the side of a road. He has had him now for over 9 Yrs. – heartbreaking…. We plan on taking RUSTY to meet with his daddy from time to time and a Video of RUSTY moving about here has been sent to his Daddy’s Nurse to show his daddy how safe and well RUSTY is doing… A BIG THANK YOU TO JEFF AND MICHELLE!
