Aren’t sure if the dog you are interested in will be the right fit? That’s okay! You are not yet making an adoption commitment.

Filling out our documentation at this time helps us only disrupt the dogs daily routine for serious inquiries only AND it helps make sure you can take your new buddy home same day if all goes as expected. Win/Win!

Step 3

Approval & Adopt

Your application will be carefully screened and a staff member will contact you.

ISHAS will talk through any special considerations the dog may come with, answer any questions you have, review home check requirements, complete a meet/greet, and finalize the donation/adoption process.

Barring any unexpected concerns, you can take your new best friend home that day to their forever home! ISHAS will stay in contact throughout the transition period.

Adoption Policy

All applications are carefully screened by our adoption staff. With all of our adoptions, we talk with the potential adopters in detail about the animal in whom they are interested, especially if the animal has special needs.

Once an application is approved, the potential adopter is required to go through a home check. The home check ensures that the dog is going into a safe and comfortable environment and that the adoption is the right fit for the dog and the potential adopter. The home check is done by a Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, Inc. staff member.

The adoption donation.   We do not put a price tag on our dogs but we do request a donation.  This donation will assist us in helping the next dog we are able to save now that one has a home.  Each dog in our care is spayed/neutered, given vaccinations and any necessary veterinary care (which can be extensive), as well as food and shelter while they are with us.

Finally, we make a lifetime commitment to any animal we accept at the sanctuary. If, for any reason, an adopter can no longer care for the animal, we require that the adopter return the animal the Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, Inc.
