Why volunteer for ISHAS?

The easy answer is because the animals need you, the staff needs you and the local community needs you.

As a volunteer you will get the enjoyment of watching special needs animals make strides toward a more “normal” life and getting that much closer to their new furever homes. For those that will probably live their life out here at the sanctuary having volunteers here to walk them, brush them and just socialize with them can make a world of difference in their quality of life.

Whether you are a dog person or all out animal person you will feel that you have made a difference in the lives of these animals that through no fault of their own no longer have a home and/or family to call their own. They look forward to the times of getting extra attention from those that can give them this pleasure. The staff here at Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary spends any extra time they have giving one on one attention to the dogs as they can, but sometimes there just is not enough hours in the day to do this.

As anyone can tell you that has had animals of their own or works with animals, it can be the most rewarding activity you will ever do and at other times is can be the most challenging. But to the animals it is the difference between spending more or less time in their kennels, having warm gentle hands petting them or getting out in the fresh air going for a walk somewhere different besides the places they always go. Not only do we need caring souls to have hands on interaction with our residents. We also need those that can help with daily cleaning, organizing, working on fund-raising events, passing out flyers to local businesses and even transporting animals at times.

This being a win-win situation please fill-out the volunteer application and send it in to us so we can get you on the road to such a rewarding endeavor.
