PEDRO found himself pretty much alone since his mama is now in a Nursing home with low hopes she will be released. PEDRO was taken in by a family member, due to other circumstances PEDRO had to be kept in her garage.. He was let out and exercised twice a day. We received a plea for help since this was not an ideal place for this Senior guy. After many emails back & forth … ISHAS agreed to bring PEDRO here. We had a Vet examine him, mainly because his back legs do not work well. The right hind leg is stiff & he drags it. X-rays revealed a deformity. His PAST records indicate he was attacked by a German Shepherd and shook. From that point on PEDRO lived with wonky bad legs.. No surgery at this time will correct this because it is neurological as well. His lungs were clear but he does have a heart murmur and a mildly enlarged heart. Blood work was good. PEDRO began to leak urine while at the Vet. He cannot empty his bladder by himself… WE have to manually express his bladder when he goes potty or he will be uncomfortable and leak urine. We have no issues doing this and he is a happy little guy even though he walks funny. PEDRO enjoys his nice comfy bed and good food.. He has a squishy lump over his right eye which is a benign growth. Sounds bad right? Well, he is as cute as cute can be and well worth the extra effort of his care here at ISHAS. PEDRO is on mild pain meds. for the time being as we get to know him better.. he has been here since June 10th. PEDRO thinks that perhaps there IS that special home for him. He has not been placed on heart meds yet. He is not coughing or showing any signs of stress. So, stock up on Frozen mini-pancakes.. break them into small pieces and watch PEDRO chase you down like the roadrunner cartoon to get a piece.. he WILL show you that he CAN get anywhere he WANTS to and.. FAST.
PEDRO is 14 Yrs old & weighs 8 Lbs. HE deserves THE care he needs and a loving home and that is what ISHAS does… Never say never !
